Curriculum – Southdale

We know that outstanding teaching is the key to outstanding learning, and outstanding teachers are those that can engage their learners. Our curriculum is based around narrative journeys and the highest expectations. The children at Southdale ‘live’ the curriculum by being immersed in it. We believe that children develop deeper knowledge and understanding through experiences, stories as well as precise teaching. Our school curriculum is carefully designed to ensure coverage and progression through exciting, broad and balanced learning. Our curriculum provides pupils with memorable experiences, in addition to diverse and rich opportunities from which children can learn and develop a range of transferable skills. All planning builds upon prior learning to ensure that every child achieves. Pupils know the purpose for their learning, how to refine their work, the links between the subjects or themes and the relevance of these to their everyday lives. Achievement at Southdale is defined as children knowing more, remembering more and being able to do more across our broad and rich curriculum. This approach creates learners who are fit for their future.

Through our narrative journeys we ensure that the National Curriculum is covered. We have linked our narratives carefully across the year groups to ensure that progression is built upon in all subjects.
